阿聯(lián)酋總理謝赫·穆罕默德·本·拉希德·阿勒馬克圖姆稱(chēng)：“我們宣布阿聯(lián)酋成功運(yùn)營(yíng)了阿拉伯世界第一座和平核能反應(yīng)堆，工作小組成功裝載核燃料組件，進(jìn)行了全面測(cè)試，并成功完成了操作?！?/span>

他補(bǔ)充說(shuō):“未來(lái)的目標(biāo)是以安全、可靠和無(wú)排放的方式提供該州四分之一的電力。我們自豪地見(jiàn)證了巴拉卡核電站按照最高國(guó)際安全標(biāo)準(zhǔn)開(kāi)始運(yùn)行。”

阿聯(lián)酋核能公司首席執(zhí)行官穆罕默德·哈馬迪表示，該核電站是“十多年來(lái)的愿景、戰(zhàn)略規(guī)劃和穩(wěn)健的項(xiàng)目管理的結(jié)晶?！?/span>

UAE announces operation of 1st Arab nuclear power plant

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced on Saturday the start-up operations of its first nuclear power plant in capital Abu Dhabi.

The milestone achievement was announced through a tweet by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE prime minister.

"We announce the UAE's success in operating the first peaceful nuclear energy reactor in the Arab world … the work teams succeeded in loading nuclear fuel packages, carrying out comprehensive tests and successfully completing the operation," tweeted Sheikh Mohammed on Saturday.

He added the future goal is to provide a quarter of the state's electricity in a safe, reliable and emission-free way.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, also congratulated the plant's opening.

"We proudly witness the start of Barakah nuclear power plant operations, in alignment with the highest international safety standards," he tweeted.

Mohamed Al Hammadi, chief executive officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, said the plant is "the culmination of more than a decade of vision, strategic planning and robust program management."

Situated 280 km away from Abu Dhabi, the project is expected to cover 25 percent of the country's energy needs, and prevent 21 million tons of carbon emissions each year.

When completed, it will consist of four units with a total of 5,600 megawatts capacity, the official WAM news agency reported.
